Commit Before You’re Capable
Book it, then become it.
A framework from The Reinventor’s Mindset™ by Ashton Jones
What is Commit Before You’re Capable?
This is the first framework inside The Reinventor’s Mindset - a methodology for transformation within established systems, developed by Ashton Jones, Director of Customer Innovation at Insignia Financial and INSEAD Advanced Management Programmegraduate.
It challenges one of the most persistent myths about change: that readiness comes first. Most people wait. They plan. They research. They practise privately. They tell themselves they’ll start when confidence arrives. But readiness rarely shows up on its own. Planning feels safe. Commitment creates consequences. And consequences create action.
The Insight
External commitment breaks the inertia loop. Capability follows commitment - not the reverse.
The Commitment Threshold
The gap between commitment and capability is where transformation happens. Most people wait for the two lines to cross before acting. The Commitment Threshold is the space between “not yet” and “already locked in.” That’s where transformation compounds.
The Question
“What have you been planning for over a year?”

Why it matters?
Courage comes from commitment, not capability
When you register, book, pay, or say yes publicly, your identity shifts. You’re no longer “x about doing it.” You’re someone who must now become the person who can.
The uncomfortable gap between commitment and capability is where growth happens fastest. Most people wait until the lines cross. But courage doesn’t come from capability. It comes from commitment. Before you’re ready. Before you know the plan. Before you believe in yourself.
How do you apply Commit Before You’re Capable?
Write down one “someday” goal - the thing you’ve been planning but not starting. Choose the smallest public commitment that makes retreat uncomfortable. Then make it today. Register, book, pay, or send the email.
The registration fee, the public announcement, the date in the calendar - these create conditions where backing out is more uncomfortable than pushing through.

FAQ
01.
What is The Reinventor’s Mindset?
The Reinventor’s Mindset is a methodology of nine frameworks for transformation without departure, developed by Ashton Jones. It teaches leaders how to drive change from within established organisations and systems, rather than leaving to start fresh.
02.
Does Commit Before You’re Capable mean acting recklessly?
No. The framework is about creating irreversible commitment to things you genuinely want to pursue but keep deferring. It’s not about betting the house on a whim. It’s about recognising that the perfect moment to start never arrives, and that a registration fee or a public announcement creates more progress than another year of preparation.

Transformation is a learnable skill, not a personality trait. I build new things inside systems designed to stay the same – and I teach others to do the same.
